Cozy Stewed Apples (Gut Friendly)

Warm, spiced stewed apples with the skins on — cozy, gut-friendly, and naturally sweetened perfection.

Few things smell more comforting than apples simmering gently on the stove — sweet, spiced, and cozy enough to make your kitchen feel like autumn. These stewed apples are one of those simple, wholesome recipes that you’ll find yourself making again and again. They’re quick to whip up, naturally sweetened, and just the right balance of tender and saucy.

I like to keep the skins on when I make mine — not only for a touch of color and texture, but also for maximum fiber and nutrients (most of the good stuff lives right in the peel!). A sprinkle of apple pie spice and a drizzle of maple syrup are all it takes to turn humble apples into something warm, fragrant, and full of flavor.

They’re delicious on their own, spooned over pancakes, swirled into yogurt, or — my personal favorite — stirred into my Apple Pie Overnight Oats. The flavors melt together overnight and taste like dessert for breakfast, in the best way possible.

Nutrition Notes

Apples are nutrient powerhouses — crisp, hydrating, and rich in vitamin C, which supports immune health and skin repair. Keeping the skin on gives you the maximum fiber, including pectin, which helps regulate digestion and promotes fullness.

Benefits of Cooked Apples
Cooking apples transforms their texture and boosts digestibility. Gently heating them softens the fiber, making the fruit easier on the stomach while still delivering valuable nutrients. The cooking process also releases pectin, a prebiotic fiber that nourishes good gut bacteria and can help stabilize blood sugar by slowing glucose release. Cooked apples are also soothing for anyone with digestive discomfort or a sensitive gut.
